Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Congress on Friday held an extended meeting of its State Executive at the Pradesh Congress headquarters, focusing on strengthening the organisation at the grassroots, intensifying public outreach and fine-tuning political strategy for the coming years.
The high-level meeting was attended by Congress in-charge for the state Harish Chaudhary, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Jitu Patwari, Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar, along with several senior leaders, MPs, MLAs, office-bearers and heads of various party departments and frontal organisations from across the state.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Chaudhary and Patwari described the deliberations as “historic”, asserting that key decisions had been taken to reinforce the party from the village and ward level upwards. Chaudhary said the two-year tenure of PCC president Jitu Patwari and Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar was unanimously appreciated. Detailed discussions were also held on the mass connect programme and the formation of panchayat and ward committees.
Chaudhary alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls had not been conducted impartially and claimed serious irregularities had surfaced. He accused the BJP of acting against the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and the spirit of the Constitution, and said the Congress would remain fully active and committed at all levels through 2026 to raise issues of public concern.
Patwari announced that from January 1 to February 15, 2026, the party would complete the reconstitution of panchayat, ward and mandal-level committees across all districts. He said this would be a decisive step towards organisational consolidation and direct engagement with the public.
Raising questions over the 2023 Assembly elections, Patwari alleged that in nearly 60 constituencies the number of voters removed during the SIR process exceeded the margin of victory claimed by the BJP. He asserted that Congress workers, along with booth-level agents, would verify electoral rolls diligently to ensure justice for affected voters.
The PCC president also announced a statewide “Gaon Chalo – Booth Chalo” campaign to strengthen public contact, protect voting rights and challenge what he termed BJP misgovernance. Committees at the state and divisional levels, under Chaudhary’s leadership, will be formed within days to oversee and implement the campaign effectively.
Congress leaders air concerns over district president selection
According to sources, some senior Congress leaders expressed dissatisfaction over the selection process of district presidents during today’s party meeting. The concerns were reportedly raised in the spirit of strengthening organisational functioning and ensuring wider consultation within the party.
When contacted by this Correspondent, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee Media Department President Dr Mukesh Nayak said that the Congress has always followed a democratic tradition in its organisational affairs. He stated that every party leader and worker is given the right to express their views during such meetings.
Dr Nayak clarified that the observations made by leaders were part of an internal democratic exercise aimed at reinforcing party unity and improving organisational effectiveness at the grassroots level. He emphasised that open discussion and constructive feedback are integral to the Congress culture and help the organisation emerge stronger and more cohesive.
