Vijender Gupta recalls legacy of Pt. Malaviya, Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Delhi Assembly

New Delhi, Dec 25 (UNI) Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Wednesday paid floral tributes to Bharat Ratna Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on their birth anniversaries, recalling their enduring contributions to India’s national and democratic journey.

Addressing the gathering, the Speaker said the occasion was an opportunity to reaffirm commitment to the values upheld by the two national icons. ”As we bow before two towering pillars of India’s national journey, we reaffirm our commitment to the values they lived for nation first, character above power, and service above self” he said.

Highlighting the historical significance of the Delhi Legislative Assembly building, Gupta noted that it earlier functioned as the Central Legislative Assembly, where Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya actively participated in parliamentary proceedings. He said nearly 440 speeches delivered by Malaviya in the House have been preserved, reflecting his intellectual depth, moral courage and commitment to the freedom movement.

The Speaker added that Malaviya’s vision of nation-building through education, character and national purpose continues to guide India’s democratic ethos.

Referring to the 101st birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which is observed as ‘Sushasan Diwas’, the Speaker said the former Prime Minister’s leadership, democratic values and statesmanship remain a guiding force for the country. He remarked that Vajpayee played a crucial role in shaping a confident and modern India, and his emphasis on good governance remains relevant.

Gupta further said the ideals of both leaders continue to inspire public life and governance. Expressing confidence in the country’s future, he said the vision of good governance and a developed India by 2047 would be realised through transparent, accountable and citizen-centric administration.
The programme concluded with a collective homage to the two Bharat Ratna awardees, reaffirming the Delhi Legislative Assembly’s commitment to constitutional values, democratic traditions and national service inspired by Pt. Madan Mohan Malaviya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
