Maoist leader Uike killed in gun battle in Odisha’s Kandhamal

Bhubaneswar, Dec 25 (UNI) Senior Maoist leader Ganesh Uike was among four insurgents reportedly killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Thursday, according to police officials.
Uike, a central committee member of the banned CPI (Maoist) and the outfit’s top leader in Odisha, carried a reward of Rs 1.1 crore, according to a senior officer overseeing anti-Naxal operations in the state.
The encounter occurred in a forested area of Chakapad in Kandhamal district. Although he was active in Odisha, Uike was a native of Pullemala village in Telangana’s Nalgonda district.
The Maoist Central Committee oversees the political and military strategy of the underground Naxalite organisation, functioning alongside the Politburo and Central Military Commission of the party. Anti-insurgency officials consider Uike to be a significant leader well versed in both ideology and guerilla strategy. UNI XC
