Sydney Dec. 22 (UNI) The men accused of killing 15 people in a fatal mass shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach had conducted firearms training in a regional area and had recorded a video about plans for the attack, according to a police fact sheet released on Monday.
The facts, which were released publicly by a Sydney court on Monday, revealed the police allegation that 24-year-old Naveed Akram and his father, Sajid, threw four improvised explosive devices into a crowd during the attack at Bondi Beach on Dec. 14, but they did not detonate.
Police on Wednesday charged Naveed Akram with 59 offenses, including 15 counts of murder and one count of committing a terrorist act, over the attack that targeted a Jewish event. Sajid Akram was shot dead by police at the scene.
The police facts said that officers investigating the attack found a video dated October 2025 showing Naveed and Sajid Akram conducting firearms training in a countryside location. “The accused and his father are seen throughout the video firing shotguns and moving in a tactical manner,” the document said.
In another video mentioned in the document, Naveed and Sajid Akram appear to “summarize their justification for the Bondi terrorist attack” and recite political and religious views. Previously authorities said that the mass shooting was motivated by Islamic State (IS) ideology.
The police documents allege that the two men placed IS flags on the front and rear windscreen of their vehicle upon arrival at Bondi Beach on the evening of Dec. 14.
