AAP alleges lax approach by Delhi Traffic Police on PUC monitoring olice

New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Delhi Traffic Police of allowing massive violations of pollution norms, citing data showing a surge in applications for Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificates.
AAP Delhi State president Saurabh Bharadwaj said the receipt of over one lakh PUC applications in three days was not an achievement but proof of a “Nikammi Sarkar” (useless government). He alleged it exposed years of lax enforcement where vehicles plied illegally, unchecked and without penalties.
“The question is unavoidable. How did such a massive volume of non-PUC vehicles operate freely under their watch? Who is accountable?” Bharadwaj stated, pointing to the approximately 12,000 traffic police personnel deployed across the city.
He further questioned whether the Delhi Traffic Police acted under external pressure, though he did not provide specific evidence to substantiate the claim.
The party’s statement frames the data as confirmation that enforcement had been deliberately lax for a long period, contributing to air pollution while authorities looked the other way.
