New Delhi, Dec 21 (UNI) Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Sunday said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has conducted a comprehensive survey of factories across its 12 zones, during which a total of 5,236 industrial units were inspected. Out of these, 430 units were found to causing water and air pollution, Sirsa said.
According to the minister, 386 units found violating environmental norms were sealed on the spot as part of strict enforcement action. He said the drive was carried out in line with the Delhi government’s zero-tolerance policy against pollution.
“The Chief Minister has given clear instructions that those who play with Delhi’s air will not be spared. Acting on these directions, our teams are continuously working on the ground to identify and take action against polluting units,” Sirsa said.
Appealing to residents to actively participate in the fight against pollution, the minister urged citizens to report illegal or polluting factories operating in their neighbourhoods through the Green Delhi App. “Only with collective efforts can we ensure clean air for Delhi,” he added.
Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) also took stern action against Graded Response Action Plan IV (GRAP IV) violations, MCD has imposed challans amounting to Rs 33.95 lakhs against construction and demolition restriction during the past one week.
During inspections across various zones, MCD teams physically verified 1,792 sites construction sites and issued 771 challans wherever violations were detected. Over 900 Challans were issued by MCD amounting to Rs 1.5 Crore in the month of November.
MCD imposed a challan amounting to Rs 5 lakhs on one of the builders at Sector 19B of Dwarka apart from other penalty on not adopting dust mitigation measures at another construction site.
During site visits, MCD officials educated and guided workers and contractors associated with construction activities about GRAP rules and dust mitigation measures.
Directions have been issued to the owners and builders to ensure strict compliance with the guidelines issued for the implementation of GRAP-IV measures. Necessary challans are also being issued against defaulters wherever violations occur.
Construction and demolition activities remain strictly prohibited in Delhi during the GRAP-IV period.
