Toxic smog chokes Delhi: AQI at 535, GRAP-IV activated

New Delhi, Dec 20 (UNI) A dense layer of toxic smog engulfed the national capital on Saturday as the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked all actions under GRAP Stage-IV across Delhi-NCR amid worsening air quality.
Delhi’s air quality has hit a dangerous high, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching 535, signaling a “Hazardous” level and an extreme public health emergency.
Hazrat Nizamuddin recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 408, classified as ‘Severe’, with severely reduced visibility, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Similar conditions were reported at Akshardham, where the AQI touched 420, also in the ‘Severe’ category.
Sarai Kale Khan saw the AQI rise to 422, later worsening to 428, while Bhairav Marg near Pragati Maidan registered one of the city’s highest readings at 433.
The Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Flyway reported an AQI of 402, and the Barapullah flyover recorded 380, falling under ‘Very Poor’. Rao Tularam Marg also faced severe smog with an AQI of 403.
