New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Repealing and Amending Bill, 2025, by a voice vote, clearing the way for the repeal of 71 obsolete or redundant Acts and introduces amendments to four existing Acts.
Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal presented the Bill, which aims to repeal certain enactments while amending others for clarity and correction.
According to the Bill’s Statement of Objects and Reasons, most of the repealed Acts—65 in total—are Amendment Acts whose provisions have already been integrated into principal Acts. Notable repealed laws include the Indian Tramways Act, 1886; the Levy Sugar Price Equalisation Fund Act, 1976; and the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (Determination of Conditions of Service of Employees) Act, 1988.
The Bill also proposes amendments to four Acts. These include updating terminology related to registered posts in the General Clauses Act, 1897, and the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908; removing the requirement of court validation of wills in certain cases under the Indian Succession Act, 1925; and correcting a drafting error in the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
Minister Meghwal described the Bill as a routine legislative measure to repeal outdated laws and correct formal defects in existing enactments. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday December 15. UNI SKA AAB
