Procedural blow to Gandhis in National Herald Case as court denies FIR copy

New Delhi, Dec 16 (UNI) The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has rejected a plea by Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi seeking a copy of the new FIR registered by the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in connection with the National Herald case.
While dismissing the petition, the court said that information about the FIR could be shared, but a certified copy of the document would not be provided to the seven accused.
In a related development, the Sessions Court has upheld this stance by setting aside an earlier order from a lower court.
Delhi Police Economic Offence Wing has lodged a new criminal case against senior Congress figures Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. The FIR, filed on October 3, also names six other individuals and companies, alleging a criminal conspiracy to fraudulently gain control of Associated Journals Ltd (AJL).
The case asserts that the Gandhis, through their majority 76 percent stake in the company Young Indian, orchestrated the acquisition of AJL-a Congress-linked entity holding properties valued at an estimated Rs 2,000 crore.
