Philippine President Marcos to visit Russia in 2026

Manila, Dec 12 (UNI/SPUTNIK) Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. may visit Russia in 2026 for the anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Partnership, Philippine Ambassador to Moscow Igor Bailen told Sputnik.

“Next year marks the 35th anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia Dialogue Partnership. We are working with our colleagues at the Russian Foreign Ministry to determine dates that Russia could propose. So, perhaps, before [Russian President] Vladimir Putin comes to Manila, [Philippine President] Marcos will first visit Russia. I think this is related to the fact that Russia will host the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit next year,” Bailen said.

In October, Bailen told Sputnik that the Philippines would definitely invite Putin to the ASEAN summit with dialogue partners in 2026 and expect him to accept the invitation. The diplomat also said that if the Kremlin invited Marcos to Russia, the invitation would be seriously considered.
