New Delhi, Dec 10 (UNI) Twelve Members of Parliament from various political parties on Wednesday called for intensifying the movement to secure 50 per cent reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in all elected bodies.
Taking part in a national seminar on BC Rights at Telangana Bhavan in the national capital, they passed several unanimous resolutions, including a demand for a BC Reservation Bill to mandate 50 per cent representation in Parliament and state assemblies, creation of a separate BC Ministry with a Rs 2 lakh crore special development fund and raising BC reservations from 25 per cent to 50 per cent in education and employment.
The resolutions also sought reservations in promotions, removal of the creamy layer, and 50 per cent BC quota in industrial and entrepreneurship policies.
Other resolutions called for implementation of reservations for SC/ST/BCs in High Court and Supreme Court judge appointments, private-sector reservations, enhanced quotas in local bodies, BC Navodaya-type residential schools in every district, full implementation of scholarships and fee reimbursement, a nationwide BC Sub-Plan, and a Special BC Protection Act on the lines of SC/ST laws.
The seminar, chaired by Rajya Sabha MP and National BC Welfare Association President R Krishnaiah, saw participation from intellectuals, activists and BC leaders from several states. Former Telangana BC Commission Chairman Dr Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan presided over the session.
MPs, including Bastipati Nagaraju, Vaddiraju Ravichandra, Ambika, Lakshminarayana, Beeda Mastan Rao and Paka Satyanarayana, thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving caste-based enumeration in the upcoming national census, calling it a historic step.
They said an accurate caste-wise data would ensure BCs receive their rightful share in education, employment, economic opportunities and political representation.
