Shooter booked for hiding criminal case

  • License revoked after exposure

Bhopal: Rifle shooter Sahib Ur Rehman has landed in trouble for allegedly hiding his criminal record while applying for a firearms license. An inquiry found that he submitted an affidavit declaring himself innocent, despite a registered assault case against him. Following the revelation, Koh-e-Fiza police have filed a case under fraud and relevant sections of the Arms Act.

The matter surfaced during a routine audit conducted around four months ago, when officials noticed discrepancies in Sahib’s documents. After verification, the district administration immediately revoked his arms license. Notably, the license had been issued in 2023 after police verification by Shahjahanabad police station.

Records show that an assault and obstruction case was registered against Sahib on February 3, 2018, based on a complaint filed by Joheb Akbar of Chowkse Nagar. However, Sahib failed to disclose this information in his 2021 application for the license, instead declaring himself “innocent.”

Authorities have emphasized that issuing arms licenses involves multiple layers of scrutiny. Applications are examined at the Collectorate’s licensing branch and approved only after thorough police verification. The incident has now raised serious questions about how such a crucial detail escaped detection during the verification process.
