Congress flags major irregularities in voter verification

Bhopal: Serious irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll have been formally reported to the Deputy District Election Officer, with documentary evidence highlighting alarming discrepancies across the Narela Assembly segment. During the verification exercise, as many as 108 voters were found registered at a single address, while only four individuals were actually present when the Booth Level Officer conducted a site visit. Despite this, records showed the verification process as “complete” for all listed voters.

Recent figures released by the district administration confirm significant inconsistencies at the concerned polling stations. After reviewing the list submitted by the Congress, the Deputy District Election Officer stated that corrections will be mandated before the final report is prepared.

Congress leader Manoj Shukla, during a protest submission, handed over hundreds of complaints alleging similar malpractice in other parts of the constituency. He remarked that this is “merely a trailer”, adding that the full extent will be revealed once the Election Commission issues its final findings.

According to Congress representatives, several localities including Karond, Chhola, Ashoka Garden, Anna Nagar and Rachna Nagar— show instances of over 100 voters registered at the same address. Physical checks reportedly revealed that nearly 25 percent of listed voters were not present at their recorded residences. Numerous Youth Congress leaders were also in attendance during the submission.
