Chandigarh, Dec 8 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta arrived in Amritsar on Monday for a spiritually significant day-long visit covering three major religious sites of the city. Accompanied by cabinet ministers, the Chief Minister was received at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport by local officials and representatives before proceeding directly to the Golden Temple.
At Sri Harmandir Sahib, Gupta offered prayers and listened to Gurbani. Speaking to the media, she said the visit was meant as an expression of gratitude following the successful 350th anniversary celebrations held recently at the Red Fort in Delhi. She recalled that during the Delhi blast incident, there was deep concern about the safety of the large gathering, and she had prayed at the time for peace and protection.
She said the event eventually unfolded smoothly, which she described as the “grace of Guru Sahib.”
Gupta highlighted that several books on the lives and teachings of the Gurus had been released, aimed at helping children connect with their heritage.
She also acknowledged the role of a Delhi committee in coordinating the large-scale commemoration.
The Chief Minister noted the historic importance of both Sis Ganj Sahib, associated with the martyrdom of the Sikh Gurus and the Red Fort, which served as a symbolic venue for the anniversary observance.
Following her visit to the Golden Temple, the Chief Minister proceeded to the Durgiana temple in Amritsar. She offered prayers and underscored the city’s diverse spiritual landscape.
The final stop on her itinerary was the Ram Tirath complex, revered as the birthplace of Luv-Kush and linked to the legacy of Rishi Valmiki and Mata Sita.
Gupta’s delegation is scheduled to return to Delhi later in the day after completing all religious engagements.
