Delhi Police busts inter-state and local women gangs targeting railway passengers

New Delhi, Dec 3 (UNI) In a major operation, the Railway Unit of Delhi Police has cracked down on two organised women gangs that were targeting passengers, primarily women, at key railway stations in the Capital. Five suspects have been arrested, and stolen valuables worth Rs 1 crore have been fully recovered.

DCP Railways KPS Malhotra said, “The Railway Unit remains committed to ensuring a safe and secure travel environment, especially for women passengers. These gangs exploited crowded transit points like lifts and escalators. Through meticulous technical analysis and human intelligence, we have achieved 100 per cent recovery in both cases.”

The first gang, operating at Sarai Rohilla Railway Station, was an inter-state group from Gujarat. They targeted women in lifts, with one member distracting the victim while another stealthily opened bags to steal jewellery and watches. Property worth Rs 70 lakh was recovered after the arrest of one active member.

The second, Delhi-based gang from Anand Parbat, struck at New Delhi Railway Station. They focused on escalators, specifically profiling elderly women who appeared to be carrying valuables. Four women were arrested, including a habitual offender with 13 past cases. Jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh was retrieved.

The investigation involved scanning over 100 CCTV footage from multiple locations and combining technical surveillance with ground intelligence. The police have issued an advisory urging passengers to remain vigilant in lifts and on escalators, keep bags secured in front of them, and report any suspicious activity immediately.
