Dubai, Dec 3 (UNI) Indian pacer Harshit Rana has been handed an official reprimand for an incident involving South Africa batter Dewald Brevis during the first ODI in Ranchi, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Wednesday.
Harshit was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.”
The incident occurred in the 22nd over of South Africa’s innings when Rana gestured towards the dressing room after dismissing Brevis. The umpire and match referee deemed the gesture to be potentially provocative, resulting in the pacer receiving a reprimand and one demerit point.
It was Rana’s first offence in 24 months. He admitted the charge and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel, ensuring no formal hearing was required.
India won the match by 17 runs, powered by Virat Kohli’s brilliant century. The second ODI of the three-match series will be played in Raipur on Wednesday.
