Patwari accuses MP Govt of undermining democracy

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee President Jeetu Patwari has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav’s BJP government, alleging that it has “broken every parameter of governance and dignity.” Patwari said that the government furnished incorrect replies to questions raised by legislators in the Assembly, and in several cases, even changed the original questions behaviour he described as a direct assault on democratic values and the sanctity of the legislature.

Challenging BJP MLAs, Patwari said: “You are in power. Show the public just one instance in your district where a citizen or a party worker received any service honestly without bribes and purely on merit. Any MLA who accomplishes this and brings it to notice will receive my public felicitation.”

Patwari claimed that Madhya Pradesh has become the most indebted state, the most unemployment-affected, and, according to NCRB data, the “capital” of crimes against girls. He said the prevalence of a “50 per cent commission” culture has paralysed governance, leaving officials unaccountable because Assemblies do not function and questions are not addressed.

Citing the recent collapse of the Nayagaon bridge on the Bareli–Pipariya road in Raisen district, in which two motorcycles fell and four people were injured, Patwari called it a “living example” of corruption and substandard construction endangering citizens’ lives.

He further accused the government of granting “a free licence to loot” while reducing the Assembly to a mere formality. “MLAs are supposed to embody the people’s power,” he said, “but today they have been reduced to mere salary earners. First create a corruption-free system and ensure public welfare—only then should discussions on enhancing MLAs’ privileges take place.”

Turning to farmers’ issues, Patwari said the BJP had promised to make farming a profitable venture, yet reality showed otherwise. He said farmers were trapped in debt, with 97 per cent burdened by loans and many driven to suicide. The government, he said, failed to ensure proper fertiliser supply, fair prices for soyabean, vegetables, paddy and maize, and forced farmers to dump produce like onions on the roads.

Warning the state government, he said: “Wake up, Mohan Babu. The agitation that has begun in Khalghat will soon engulf the entire state.”

On the FIR filed against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case, Patwari accused the Centre of “revenge politics”, adding that such actions were eroding public trust in democratic institutions, investigative agencies and even the judiciary.

He concluded that the country was heading into a dangerous phase where the Constitution and democracy itself faced unprecedented threats, urging citizens to recognise the gravity of the situation.
