Bhopal: The Bhopal bypass, which collapsed due to system failure, faulty design, and official negligence, is expected to reopen for traffic within the next two months. To stabilize the damaged section, 140 pillars are being constructed at a depth of 50 feet, over which a 60-meter-long cement concrete wall will be built.
Following the incident, Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) GM Sonal Sinha has been shifted to the headquarters, and Ishwar Chandeli has been assigned responsibility for the project. Nearly 35 out of the proposed 140 pillars have already been completed. GM Chandeli stated that the repair work is being carried out as per the design and recommendations of the departmental investigation committee, which included experts from MANIT. The contractor has been given three months to complete the work.
Three Poclains, four JCBs, several dump trucks, and more than 50 laborers are working continuously at the site. Once all pillars are completed, a thick cement concrete wall will be built, followed by slab construction and surface repair.
The bypass collapse on October 13, 2025 created a 100-meter-long, 20-foot-deep crater in the reinforced earth wall near the Kalyanpur ROB.
