Ranchi, Nov 29 (UNI) The JSCA International Stadium in the city is set to witness high-voltage cricketing action on November 30 when India and South Africa face off in the opening match of the three-game ODI series.
The contest carries special significance as star batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return to the Indian lineup after a considerable gap, strengthening the team ahead of the crucial series. KL Rahul will lead the side which will take the field without Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah.
Both teams have intensified their practice sessions to fine-tune their form before the opening clash. Historically, India and South Africa have had closely contested ODI encounters, with the two sides meeting 58 times so far South Africa winning 30 and India 27.
India now aims for a dominant 3-0 victory to reinforce its ODI supremacy and avenge the recent Test series defeat.
India last played a three-match ODI series against South Africa in 2023, securing a 2-1 win. Statistics also favour the hosts, who have won nearly 71 percent of their home ODI matches over the past 15 years.
Although South Africa showcased its strength by clinching a historic Test series in India after 25 years, the shorter format has often tilted in India’s favour.
Ranchi holds special significance for Indian cricket. At the JSCA Stadium, India has won three of the six ODIs played so far. The venue, home to former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has often proved lucky for Men in Blue, with passionate local support expected to provide an extra boost.
