Idukki (Kerala), Nov 28 (UNI) An 18-year-old youth, Adithyan Baiju, was caught in Thodupuzha for illegally storing medicines valued at Rs 50,850, authorities said. The seizure took place during a town-area inspection led by the Thodupuzha Sub-Inspector.
The confiscated medicines were later presented before the Thodupuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, according to an official release.
The police found that Adithyan Baiju was illegally storing an injection medicine typically prescribed for people with low blood pressure. The Drugs Control Department later verified the items and took them into custody. A total of 150 vials of the injection, worth around Rs50,850, were seized. The youth had reportedly purchased the medicines online, making this the fifth case in Idukki involving online drug purchases without proper authorization.
Health Minister Veena George has directed the Drugs Controller to take strict follow-up action, especially in matters involving supplies from other states. Legal proceedings were initiated by Drugs Inspector Martin Joseph under the instructions of Ernakulam Assistant Drugs Controller K. Santosh Mathew. KR Naveen from the Drugs Inspector Intelligence Wing also joined the inspection. Officials cautioned that using such medicines without medical supervision could be life-threatening.
