MP Cong slams Govt over horrific rape case

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Jeetu Patwari has expressed deep outrage over the horrific rape of a six-year-old girl in Raisen district, describing the incident as not merely a crime against a child but a grave question mark over the safety of women and girls across the State.

Patwari said the brutal assault, which occurred in the Gauharganj area of Bhojpur constituency, has shaken the entire State. Yet, even after three days, the accused remains absconding. This, he asserted, exposes the administrative failure of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and reflects the “frightening reality” of the State’s law-and-order situation.

Highlighting crime statistics, Patwari said that Madhya Pradesh has become a “hotspot of atrocities against women and girls,” claiming that approximately 22 rapes are reported daily, including around seven cases involving minors. Even girls aged five and below, he added, are falling prey to heinous assaults. He called this a shameful situation, accusing the government of being a silent spectator despite the State recording the highest number of such incidents nationally.

Patwari stressed that the fear of the law has disappeared in Madhya Pradesh because the administration is failing to act with honesty and seriousness. He said that although the Chief Minister himself holds charge of the Law Department, both justice and public safety appear to be “breathing their last”.

He further remarked that if an accused in a rape case is not arrested within three days, it clearly reflects the failure of the police machinery and the government’s insensitivity. The resulting public anger, he noted, is visible in road blockades, protests, and growing unrest across different regions. “Yet the government continues to remain in deep slumber,” he said.

Calling the Mohan Yadav government “irresponsible, incompetent, and shameless” in matters of women’s safety, Patwari said the cries of young girls and the pain of their families seem to have no impact on those in power.

Patwari demanded the immediate arrest of the accused, registration of the strictest charges, and fast-track trial. He also urged the government to provide financial assistance, proper medical care, and security to the victim’s family.

Warning of intensified public agitation, Patwari said that if the government continues its indifferent attitude and fails to ensure the safety of women and girls, the Congress will launch a strong and statewide mass movement along with the people.
