BMHRC achieves success in two complex CBD surgeries

Bhopal, — The Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC) has successfully performed two complex, advanced gastro-surgeries related to the Common Bile Duct (CBD), demonstrating the institute’s high-level technical expertise. Both patients are recovering well under the care of a specialist surgical team led by Dr. Pramod Verma.

= Keyhole technique used for multiple CBD stones

In a 60-year-old female patient, the team performed a Laparoscopic CBD Exploration to remove approximately 10 large stones, some up to 2 cm in size, that were obstructing the bile flow and causing severe jaundice. Typically, such complex cases require invasive open surgery. However, the BMHRC team opted for the advanced laparoscopic technique, which minimizes incisions, reduces pain, and ensures faster recovery. The procedure, covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, was completely successful, and the patient has been safely discharged.

= Rare Choledochal Cyst successfully excised

In another challenging case, a 55-year-old woman suffering from a rare congenital condition known as a Choledochal Cyst (abnormal ballooning of the bile duct) underwent a successful corrective operation. This condition can lead to liver damage and cancer if untreated. The surgeons completely removed the dilated bile duct and performed a Hepatico-Duodenostomy—reconnecting the healthy bile ducts from the liver directly to the small intestine. Officiating Director Dr. Manisha Srivastava praised the team, highlighting that the successful execution of these technically demanding surgeries confirms BMHRC’s position as a leader in advanced treatment for critical illnesses.
