Suspended cop Files counter-complaint after on-video assault

Bhopal: A police officer, who was suspended after a video of him brutally assaulting a scooter mechanic went viral, has filed a counter-FIR application against the showroom staff.

The incident occurred at a showroom in Vidyanagar, Bagsewania, stemming from a dispute over the repair of a recently purchased scooter. Head Constable Ramavatar Dhakad, posted in Bairagarh, reportedly grew angry when the showroom manager, Imran, allegedly demanded immediate payment for a repair that was supposed to be covered by insurance.

The argument escalated when mechanic Sachin intervened and grabbed the officer by his collar. Dhakad retaliated violently, pushing Sachin to the ground and repeatedly kicking him. A passerby who recorded the assault was also reportedly manhandled. Critically, the video shows nearby police personnel making no attempt to stop the beating.

Following the widespread circulation of the video on social media, senior officials took swift action, suspending the head constable. Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone-2 Vivek Singh confirmed that prompt action was taken regarding the officer’s excessive use of force. Meanwhile, Dhakad has submitted a formal complaint to the Bagsewania police against the showroom employees, suggesting a deepening legal battle.
