New Delhi, Nov 22 (UNI) The Delhi Police Crime Branch said on Saturday it has dismantled a major international arms trafficking module with links to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The syndicate was using drones to smuggle high-end Turkish and Chinese weapons across the border for distribution to criminal gangs in Delhi and the National Capital Region.
In a significant operation, four key operatives were arrested, and a cache of 10 sophisticated semi-automatic pistols, along with 92 live cartridges, was seized. The recovered weapons include the PX-5.7 model from Turkiye, a type typically used by special forces, and the PX-3 model from China.
The operation was launched based on specific intelligence that an arms delivery would take place in the Rohini area. A police team laid a trap and intercepted a vehicle, leading to the arrest of two individuals, Mandeep Singh and Dalvinder Kumar, from Punjab.
The weapons were discovered concealed inside a speaker box in the car. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two more intermediaries from Uttar Pradesh, Rohan Tomar and Ajay Monu.
Explaining the modus operandi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav stated, “The module was involved in smuggling weapons from across the international border using drones. Traffickers in Pakistan would deploy customised commercial drones to drop arms near the border, which were then retrieved by associates on the Indian side.”
The investigation revealed that the arrested accused were working on the directions of foreign-based handlers, including one Jaspreet Jas, a close associate of notorious gangster Sonu Khatri (also known as Rajesh Kumar), who is currently based in the USA.
The police confirmed that this network is backed by the Pakistani secret agency, ISI.
The police also recovered a white Swift Dzire car used in the crime. Further investigation into the network’s operations and its links to various gangs is ongoing.
