- Heritage Week: Museums, monuments and students at the heart of activities
Bhopal: The MP Directorate of Archaeology, Archives & Museums is celebrating World Heritage Week from 19 to 25 November, with a wide range of public engagement activities across the state. This year’s theme, “Preserving Our Past, Inspiring Our Future,” is guiding initiatives designed to deepen public understanding of Madhya Pradesh’s rich cultural legacy. All state museums, protected monuments and heritage sites are hosting special programs to connect people—especially the youth—with their historical surroundings.
A special Heritage Walk series has been curated across Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur. Students form the primary focus of these walks, aimed at educating them about the significance of heritage and the ongoing conservation efforts. Alongside the walks, the Directorate is organising workshops, storytelling sessions, painting competitions, photo exhibitions and interactive educational activities, ensuring an engaging and immersive experience for visitors.
Deputy Director (Archives) Nilesh Lokhande said, “The Heritage Week celebrations across Madhya Pradesh are receiving an overwhelming response. We have already exceeded registration capacity for our Heritage Walk scheduled on 23 November in Bhopal.”
Joint Director Dr. Manisha Sharma added, “Our initiatives are shaped by a communication strategy focused on continuous engagement. Conservation is not just about protecting stone and script—it preserves our collective memory and the cultural identity of Madhya Pradesh.”
