Delhi to soon enforce labour codes with free health checks, higher pay: Minister

New Delhi, Nov 21 (UNI) Delhi Labour Minister Kapil Mishra on Friday said that provisions under the new labour codes will soon be implemented by the Delhi government, offering better wages and health protection to workers in the national Capital.

Outlining the benefits of the reformed labour laws, Mishra highlighted that workers performing overtime will now receive double wages, ensuring clear recognition of the value and dignity of their labour.

“For workers employed in hazardous categories, 100% health protection has been ensured, making their work environment significantly safer and more secure,” he added.

The cabinet minister also stated that the new Labour Codes issued by the Central government will ensure a guaranteed minimum wage for all workers across the country, along with providing them with a stable and reliable income.

He added that fixed-term employees, after completing one year of service, will now be eligible for gratuity, which will help provide them with protection similar to permanent employees.

Free annual health check-ups have also been introduced for workers above 40 years of age, an important step for health monitoring and preventive care.

Mishra also highlighted that with the labour reforms, pay parity will also be brought in for the women workforce, strengthening institutional gender equality in the workplace.

Applauding the amendments enforced by the Central government, he asserted that the labour reforms have been aligned with international standards, making India’s labour framework more modern, competitive, and just.

The four labour laws enforced by the Centre on Friday were long pending, since they were last passed by Parliament in 2020.
