Railway’s ‘VIKALP’ Scheme offers second chance to waitlisted passengers

Bhopal: Indian Railways has introduced a significant convenience feature called ‘VIKALP’ (Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme) to streamline travel for passengers holding waiting list (WL) tickets booked online via IRCTC.

‘VIKALP’ is an optional, free-of-cost service that automatically transfers waitlisted passengers to available seats in a different train heading in the same direction, or on a later date of the same train, if their original ticket remains unconfirmed. This optimizes seat usage across the rail network.

Key features:

It is available exclusively for online (IRCTC) bookings.

Passengers can select their preferred alternative trains or travel dates.

The transfer is automatic and seats are allotted free of any extra charge.
Passengers are notified of the change via SMS and email.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Shri Saurabh Kataria urged travelers to opt for the feature while booking, stating that ‘VIKALP’ is designed to reduce seat wastage and provide waitlisted passengers with a confirmed travel opportunity, ensuring a smoother journey experience.
