ED names Robert Vadra in the supplementary chargesheet in black money case involving Sanjay Bhandari

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday filed a supplementary chargesheet against Robert Vadra, husband of AICC General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in the Sanjay Bhandari Black Money case.

“The ED found the role of Vadra in assisting Bhandari and using the property at 12, Bryanston Square, London, which was the proceeds of crime,” the official said.

The ED said that they, after a detailed investigation, confronted Vadra about the evidence gathered from other countries to which the latter did not provide any satisfactory reply.

“The evidence gathered by ED indicates that the property acquired by Bhandari was beneficially used by Vadra for his personal use. Since it was found that Vadra was in possession of proceeds of crime, ED filed a supplementary Prosecution Complaint in the Rouse Avenue Court. The court will now take up this matter on December 6,” said the official.

The ED Investigation revealed that Vadra has furnished the property 12, Bryanston Square, London, even though it was purchased by Bhandari for 1.9 million GBP and the funds for the same were also provided by Vadra only.

“He used to decide about the interiors of the property and he used to stay in the said property even though the ownership of the property kept changing from Sanjay Bhandari to C C Thampi to Mr. Cheru. The evidence collected by ED revealed that Robert Vadra used this property during all these times when the property was in benami names,” the official said.

Sanjay Bhandari, who fled India in 2016, was declared a fugitive economic offender this year. Recent developments in a UK court have significantly reduced the likelihood of his extradition to India.
