Congress plans impeachment move against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) Congress is considering to bring an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the upcoming session of Parliament.

According to party sources, the Election Commission has not providing answers to the public and the opposition’s questions regarding EVM machines, the revision of the voters’ list (SIR), and electoral transparency.

The Congress has once again accelerated its strategy to bring an impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner during the forthcoming winter session of Parliament. Sources say that the party has intensified discussions on the impeachment issue with senior leaders of the INDIA alliance partners.

The INDIA alliance may also convene a meeting on this matter before the Winter Session begins. Opposition parties are demanding that the Chief Election Commissioner respond openly to questions being raised about the electoral process.

Congress sources say the party wants to ensure that there is no doubt in the public’s mind about the credibility of the election process. It is worth noting that discussions on an impeachment motion had taken place among opposition leaders during the previous Parliament session as well.

Significantly, Congress’s national general secretary, K.C. Venugopal, has announced that a massive rally on the issue of voters’ list revision will be held at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan in December. He has also accused the Election Commission of working in favor of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, along with senior party leaders and workers, will participate in the Ramlila Maidan rally.
