Parents demand action as 16-year-old student’s death sparks outrage in Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) Tensions ran high outside St. Columba’s School in Ashok Place on Thursday as students and parents gathered to protest following the tragic death of a 16-year-old student, who allegedly died by suicide at Rajendra Place Metro Station on November 18.
The demonstration escalated as parents demanded accountability from the school administration, accusing several teachers of subjecting the boy to continuous mental harassment.
According to an FIR filed by the student’s father, a resident of Karol Bagh, the teenager had been under “severe mental stress” due to repeated humiliation and harassment by certain teachers. The complaint states that the boy had frequently shared his distress at home, telling his parents that some teachers scolded and insulted him over minor issues, leaving him feeling increasingly troubled.
The family claims they had raised multiple verbal complaints with both teachers and the school principal, but no corrective action was taken.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the allegations. Meanwhile, parents at the protest demanded an impartial inquiry and stronger safeguards for student mental health within schools.
The boy’s death has reignited conversations around academic pressure, emotional safety in schools, and the urgent need to address student complaints.
