Bhopal Division deploys 341 fog safe devices for smooth winter rail ops

Bhopal: The Bhopal Division of West Central Railway (WCR) is gearing up for the winter fog season by deploying 341 Fog Safe Devices (FSDs) across its network. This critical measure aims to ensure smooth rail operations, improve service reliability, and enhance passenger safety, particularly in the fog-prone northern routes.
The FSD is a GPS-based navigation device that provides real-time, on-board information to the Loco Pilot, assisting them in driving trains through dense fog conditions. It offers both display and voice guidance regarding fixed landmarks, such as signals, level crossing gates, and speed restrictions.
The system alerts the pilot about the next three approaching fixed locations up to 500 meters away with audio messages. The Bhopal Division has mandated the 100% usage of these FSDs in all passenger and freight trains to mitigate delays and maintain efficient train movement throughout the foggy months.
