New Delhi, Nov 19 (UNI) The Supreme Court today agreed to list on November 21 a batch of petitions challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls currently underway in Kerala.
Advocate Haris Beeran mentioned the plea filed by the Indian union Muslim League (IUML) before Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, seeking urgent listing.
He submitted that the ongoing local body elections in the state would make it practically difficult to conduct the SIR simultaneously.
CJI Gavai agreed to list the matter on Friday.
Advocate C.K. Sasi also mentioned the Kerala Government’s petition, which does not challenge the SIR notification but seeks deferment of the revision process until the local body elections conclude.
The CJI directed that all related matters be taken up together.
The IUML’s petition specifically assails the notification ordering the SIR and seeks a stay on the process in view of the ongoing elections.
