Bangladesh-India Women’s series postponed

Dhaka, Nov 18 (UNI) The scheduled tour of the Bangladesh women’s cricket team to India in December, featuring three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), has been officially postponed, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said on Tuesday

A BCB spokesperson confirmed the development to a section of media, stating that the it had received a letter from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) indicating that the series will be rescheduled at a later date.

While no specific reasons were provided for the postponement, it is widely believed that ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh played a significant role in this decision. The series was part of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) future tours programme and was considered vital for both teams’ international fixtures.

This series was set to be India’s final set of matches before the commencement of the next edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). It also held strategic importance as a bridge between India’s victorious ODI World Cup campaign and the upcoming WPL, with matches originally scheduled to take place in Kolkata and Cuttack. Additionally, the ODIs marked the beginning of a new cycle for the Women’s ODI Championship for both nations.

Earlier in the year, India’s men’s cricket team’s tour of Bangladesh, initially scheduled for August 2025, was rescheduled to September 2026. The BCCI stated that the decision to postpone the Bangladesh series was made following discussions with the BCB, taking into account existing international commitments and scheduling considerations for both teams.

The BCCI expressed its eagerness to host Bangladesh in September 2026 and assured that revised dates and fixtures would be announced in due course.
