New Delhi, Nov 17 (UNI) The Indian Consulate in Jeddah has issued a statement regarding the tragic accident in Saudi Arabia, in which several Indian nationals are reported to have lost their lives.
The statement said that following the tragic accident involving a bus carrying Umrah pilgrims near Medina last night, a 24×7 control room has been set up at the Indian Consulate in Jeddah.
There are reports that dozens of Indian pilgrims lost their lives when a bus collided with a diesel tanker in the early hours of Monday in Saudi Arabia. Most of the victims are believed to be from Hyderabad, with reports indicating that at least 16 were residents of the Mallepally and Bazarghat areas.

A bus carrying Umrah pilgrims collided with a diesel tanker near Medina in the early hours of Monday. Dozens of Indian pilgrims are believed to have died, with most victims reportedly from Hyderabad. At least 16 of the deceased are said to be residents of the Mallepally and Bazarghat areas.
The Consulate has expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are in continuous contact with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah as well as other local authorities. They are also coordinating with Umrah operators.
“Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are also in touch with Saudi Haj and Umrah Ministry, and other local authorities. They are also in touch with the concerned Umrah operators,” the statement said.
“A team of Consulate staff and Indian community volunteers is on the ground at various hospitals and sites and closely monitoring the situation. The Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah are extending fullest support. Officials of the Embassy and the Consulate are also in touch with the concerned officials of the State of Telangana to coordinate with the concerned families,”it said.
