New Delhi, 14 Nov (UNI) Bangladesh’s National Security Advisor Khalilur Rahman will be travelling down to the Indian capital next Wednesday for a two-day conference.
Rahman will be coming to attend the Colombo Security conclave, a high-level conference involving five Indian Ocean littoral nations. Dhaka’s High Commissioner to India, Muhammad Riaz Hamidullah, confirmed Rahman’s visit to India, to the UNI.
“The Bangladesh NSA will be flying in on November 19,” the high commissioner said. It is not known whether any informal talks on security issues will be held with Khalilur by Indian authorities.
India-Bangladesh relations have been strained ever since repeated anti-India utterances by top leaders in the Mohammad Yunus government in Dhaka. Dhaka is also unhappy with India for having given refuge to Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted last year after violent protests and has been demanding her return to face trial for alleged abuse of power.
Yunus on Thursday announced that Bangladesh will hold a national referendum on implementing its ‘July Charter’ and other reforms alongside the national elections on the same day in the first half of February 2026.
The controversial charter has been endorsed by many political parties, while others have ruled against it. Those who support the charter consider it to be a step towards institutional reform, while critics point out that it lacks legitimacy as it tries to define national politics without parliamentary approval.
On Thursday, Bangladesh also witnessed protests against Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus-led interim Government, by opposition Awami League workers.
