Bhopal: Senior Congress leader and former minister PC Sharma and noted thinker Bhasker Rao Rokade held a joint press conference announcing that a grand national-level event will be organised on 19 November 2025 at the Muktakash Manch near Ravindra Bhavan, Bhopal, to mark the 108th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

Addressing the media, Sharma and Rokade criticised the Union Home Ministry’s notification dated 12 July 2024, which designated 25 June as “Constitution Murder Day.” They alleged that the move triggered a deliberate disinformation campaign against Indira Gandhi.

Rokade highlighted that during the 1960s and 1970s, growing dominance of monopolistic capitalism and the remnants of feudal power created social and economic inequality. In such times, Indira Gandhi took revolutionary decisions that laid the foundation for balanced and inclusive development. Inspired by her legacy, Rokade launched the Samyak Abhiyan on 2 May 2022 from Rewa, focusing on nine major socio-economic issues.

The campaign aims to provide dignified opportunities for educated unemployed youth, curb the exploitation of private-sector workers, reform labour laws, promote community-based farming, and utilise unclaimed royal assets for public welfare. Rokade said that the Indira Jyoti Abhiyan, a four-year initiative born out of these ideals, is currently active in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan.

As part of this movement, 107 events have already been held nationwide under the Indira Gandhi Srijan Varsh Samaroha, while the 108th and final celebration will take place in Bhopal as a grand national function. Rokade also announced that the Indira Jyoti Yatra will begin on 6 January 2026 from Chitnis Ganj, Chhindwara — the same place where Mahatma Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921.

Former minister PC Sharma, appointed as the state in-charge of the Samyak Abhiyan, stated that under directives from AICC leader Bhanwar Jitendra Singh, the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee has formed an 11-member organising committee led by former MP Surendra Singh Thakur to ensure the success of the national celebration.
