“The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” trailer out

Los Angeles, Nov 13 (UNI) Nintendo, Illumination and Universal Pictures on Wednesday unveiled the first trailer for ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ during a Nintendo Direct livestream.

The trailer opens with Mario and Luigi taunting a miniaturised Bowser—who, after consuming a Mini Mushroom in the previous film, now lives as a tiny prisoner.

From there the scene quickly shifts into full‑on cosmic scale: Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi and Toad observe a stream of shooting stars, then rocket off across the galaxy—visiting a water‑planet and a desert world with upside‑down pyramids, reminiscent of the 2017 game Super Mario Odyssey.

The heroes soon encounter two new characters: Rosalina (voiced by Brie Larson) and Bowser Jr. (voiced by Benny Safdie). Rosalina uses a magic wand to take down a spider‑like robot, while Bowser Jr., reminiscent of his incarnation in the 2002 game Super Mario Sunshine, wields a metallic‑coated paint‑brush flail.

Returning voice cast members include Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor‑Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, and Keegan‑Michael Key as Toad.

According to Variety, the film draws from the much‑loved 2007 Nintendo Wii game ‘Super Mario Galaxy’, described by the publication as “widely considered not only to be one of the best main‑line Mario platforms, but one of the best video games of all time.”

The sequel follows the original 2023 film ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’, which grossed over USD 1.3 billion worldwide.

Directors Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic return for the sequel, with returning screenwriter Matthew Fogel. The film is slated to hit theaters in April 2026.
