Mumbai, Nov 10 (UNI) The Mumbai Police have stepped up security across the city following reports of a powerful explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station today evening that left at least eight people dead and caused extensive damage to nearby vehicles.
Authorities in Mumbai have implemented comprehensive precautionary measures to ensure public safety and maintain heightened vigilance throughout the metropolitan area.
Immediately after news of the Delhi blast surfaced, all police stations in Mumbai were directed to operate under enhanced surveillance protocols. The department ordered increased patrolling across sensitive and high-footfall zones, including railway stations, marketplaces, religious sites, coastal areas, and tourist locations.
Police teams have established ‘nakabandis’ at key traffic intersections and junctions, conducting random checks on vehicles and individuals exhibiting suspicious behaviour. Officers have also been instructed to make extensive use of local intelligence networks to monitor and identify potential threats or unusual movements within their jurisdictions.
According to initial reports from Delhi, the explosion occurred near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station during the evening rush hour. The blast triggered a massive fire, engulfing three to four vehicles parked close to the site. Eyewitnesses described the explosion as “extremely powerful” that shattered glass windows of nearby shops and buildings. Police and fire brigade personnel reached the location swiftly to contain the blaze and rescue victims.
Videos circulating on social media showed towering flames and dense black smoke rising from the area as onlookers watched in shock.
Firefighters from the Delhi Fire Department managed to extinguish the flames soon after arriving, while police cordoned off the area to restrict access. Forensic experts have begun examining debris to determine the nature and cause of the explosion, which officials said remains under investigation.
