Abhishek Banerjee remembers Nandigram, slams BJP’s ‘oppression’

New Delhi, Nov 10 (UNI) Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee on Monday marked the anniversary of the 2007 Nandigram incident, condemning the Left Front government’s actions and drawing parallels with the current BJP regime. “The face of the oppressor has only changed, the oppression remains the same,” Banerjee wrote on his WhatsApp channel.

Banerjee accused the BJP of resorting to “silent, invisible rigging” and politics of exclusion. “The harmads of yesterday have returned as the jallads of today,” he said, referencing the Left Front’s past tactics. He claimed the Left Front relied on “covert, scientific rigging,” while the BJP uses more subtle methods.

Banerjee vowed to resist the BJP’s alleged oppression, echoing the people’s resistance in Nandigram. “Bengal taught the Left Front a lesson it will never forget, today we send the same message to the zamindars of Delhi. Bengal will resist, relentlessly and resolutely,” he said.

The Nandigram incident was a pivotal moment in West Bengal politics, marking a turning point against the Left Front government. Banerjee’s statement reflects the TMC’s continued opposition to the BJP and its efforts to mobilize support ahead of elections.
