In push to renewable energy, Telangana to have 6,000 EV charging stations by 2030

Hyderabad, Nov 6 (UNI) The Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd (TGREDCO) on Thursday said that it aims to scale up the initiative with 6,000 EV charging stations by 2030 and 12,000 by 2035, underpinned by Telangana’s EV & Energy Storage Policy (2020–2030) and Clean Energy Policy (2025).

Corporation Vice Chairman and Managing Director V. Anila said the program is also aligned with PM e-Drive and Telangana Mobility Valley, ensuring continued innovation and sustainability.

In a release here, the top official said Telangana has been conferred with the “City with Best Green Transport Initiative” award for Hyderabad, recognizing the State’s exemplary efforts in promoting sustainable urban mobility and electric vehicle (EV) adoption.

The award will be presented by union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs during the valedictory session of the UMI Conference 2025 to be held on November 9 at Gurugram, Haryana.

The award acknowledges the successful implementation of the E-Mobility and EV Charging Infrastructure Project, spearheaded by Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd. (TGREDCO) under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP), she said.

Under the visionary leadership of the Government of Telangana, TGREDCO has been designated as the State Nodal Agency (SNA) for EV Charging Infrastructure and as the Single-Window Clearance Agency.

She said through coordinated efforts with GHMC, HMDA, TGSRTC, and DISCOMs, TGREDCO has successfully developed a robust and integrated EV charging ecosystem in Hyderabad and across the state.

The key achievements include over 1,000 EV chargers facilitated across Telangana — including 150 installed directly by TGREDCO; Rs.35 crore project implemented under NCAP funding with zero financial burden on the State and Special EV Tariff (LT-IX) introduced for affordable charging; load capacity enhanced to 150 kW, she said.

Through a strong public, private & citizen model, Hyderabad has established itself as a national leader in clean and inclusive transport transition.

As a national leader in clean and inclusive transport transition, the Corporation’s efforts have led to 329 per cent growth in EVCS usage within nine months and 14.9 per cent modal shift to electric and non-motorized transport, she said.

TGREDCO remains dedicated to advancing the State’s clean mobility mission and positioning Hyderabad as a benchmark for future-ready, eco-friendly urban transport in India”.
