Kapil Mishra unveils ‘Indraprasth Anthem’ at Purana Qila; Calls for revival of Delhi’s true heritage

New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) To mark the occasion of Kartik Purnima, a cultural event titled ‘Grand Cultural Evening and Launch of Indraprasth Anthem’ was organised on Wednesday at the historic Purana Qila or Indraprastha Fort under the joint aegis of the Government of Delhi and the Draupadi Dream Trust. Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra unveiled the “Indraprasth Anthem.”

The cultural evening featured a special Kathak dance-drama titled “Shri Krishna–Draupadi Samvad: Decoding Maharani Draupadi”, which beautifully showcased the cultural grandeur of Indraprastha from the Mahabharata era.

Addressing the gathering, Mishra said that the sacred day of Kartik Purnima and the historic Purana Qila are living symbols of Delhi’s true heritage. “Today, we are collectively reviving the real history of Delhi — a history that was long hidden or misrepresented,” he stated.

He further added that the Delhi Government is committed to restoring Delhi’s authentic heritage and bringing its true history before the world.

“Our culture, art, cuisine, traditions, and tourism — all embody the intrinsic Indian spirit, and it is our mission to restore their rightful pride and recognition,” he said.

Mishra also emphasised that Kartik Purnima should be regarded as the real Foundation Day of Delhi. “Historically, the true foundation of Delhi was laid on Kartik Purnima — the very day when the city of Indraprastha was established. This city is directly connected with Lord Shri Krishna and the era of the Pandavas,” he said.

Highlighting the government’s focus on developing religious and spiritual tourism in Delhi, the Minister said that continuous efforts are being made to ensure that every festival — from Chhath Puja to Diwali — is celebrated in a clean, safe, and spiritually uplifting environment.

“This year, during Chhath Puja, we ensured that no devotee had to bathe in unclean or polluted water — pure and safe water was made available at all sites,” he informed.

The Minister further shared that for the first time, the Government of Delhi has celebrated the Hindu New Year, Navratri, and Dev Deepawali at the state level.

“Together, we are erasing the shadow that covered Delhi’s glorious past and present. The true cultural pride of Delhi is being restored — the city will once again be recognised as Indraprastha,” he declared.
