West Central Railway surpasses target

  • Hauls over 31 million tonnes

Bhopal: The West Central Railway (WCR) has recorded an impressive jump in freight loading, transporting over 31 million tonnes (MT) of goods in the first seven months of the current financial year (April-October 2025).

The WCR loaded a total of 31.46 MT, marking an increase of 6.71% compared to the 29.48 MT carried during the same period last year. For October 2025 alone, the loading stood at a robust 4.34 MT. This performance is attributed to the consistent monitoring by the General Manager and sustained efforts by senior officials across the Bhopal, Jabalpur, and Kota divisions.

Key factors boosting freight

The railway is focused on enhancing efficiency through several key measures:

* Infrastructure upgrades: Accelerating new rail lines, doubling, and tripling of tracks.
* Operational speed: Increasing the average speed of goods trains and improving operational efficiency.
* Reducing detention: Streamlining work at goods terminals to minimize delays.
* 24/7 services: Launching round-the-clock loading and unloading services at goods sheds.
* Terminal Development: Developing and upgrading new goods sheds and actively increasing Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals/sidings.
