Weather Alert: Heavy Rains Lash Eastern MP

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh has experienced a dramatic change in weather due to the combined impact of a depression over the Arabian Sea, a deep low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, and a cyclonic circulation in North India. This rare convergence is causing widespread rain, cold winds, and fog across the state, even after the formal withdrawal of the monsoon.

On Thursday morning, Niwari and Tikamgarh witnessed heavy downpour, while Raisen was blanketed in dense fog. The previous day, fast winds caused a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures across Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain, with Ujjain’s maximum temperature falling sharply to 23(C).

= Orange Alert Issued for 12 Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours in twelve eastern and southern districts, including Satna, Rewa, Sidhi, Shahdol, and Mandla. A Yellow Alert has also been declared for districts like Khandwa, Jabalpur, and Panna. The unseasonal rain, fueled by the converted cyclonic system ‘Montha’ from the Arabian Sea, is expected to continue until November 1 or 2.

= Impact on Agriculture and Winter Forecast

The extended rainfall is severely impacting farmers, particularly in Morena, where four consecutive days of rain have damaged Rabi crops. Mustard seeds sown in fields have reportedly rotted due to waterlogging. Meteorologists have advised farmers to postpone wheat sowing until the weather clears. Looking ahead, experts predict that a bitterly cold winter may set in from November and last until February, potentially making it the coldest season since 2010.
