Bhopal: Tension flared once again in Ashoka Garden under the Narela Assembly constituency on Thursday during the installation of smart electricity meters. Local residents, led by Congress leader Manoj Shukla, strongly opposed the electricity department’s team, accusing officials of forcibly installing meters in residential areas.
Residents alleged that the installation drive was being carried out in violation of regulations, without obtaining consent from consumers. Those who objected were reportedly threatened with legal action for “obstructing government work.”
Manoj Shukla urged officials to follow due procedures and warned that if coercive tactics continued, Congress would stage a protest and surround the General Manager’s office along with affected families.
Aarti Borban, Tariq Ali, Ahmed Khan, and Bijendra Shukla were also present during the protest.
