New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Congress leader Jairam Ramesh today launched a fierce critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election campaign in Bihar, accusing the government of ignoring the escalating violence against women in the state.
Speaking on the social media platform X, Ramesh questioned Modi’s moral right to seek votes from Bihar’s women while remaining silent on their safety and suffering.
“The Prime Minister is appealing to the women of Bihar to vote for him from their soil. But the harsh reality is that under the double-engine government, the daughters of Bihar are left utterly vulnerable,” Ramesh wrote.
“Crimes against women, including sexual violence, have surged to alarming levels, while the government’s sensitivity towards these issues has sharply declined.”
Ramesh highlighted a tragic case from May, when an 11-year-old Dalit girl, critically injured, was denied admission to Patna Medical College and Hospital for eight hours and ultimately died in an ambulance.
“The Prime Minister delivers election speeches filled with promises, entertains the public for a fleeting moment, yet remains silent on such grave atrocities,” he charged.
Recounting past scandals, Ramesh referred to the 2018 Muzaffarpur shelter home case, where over 34 minor girls were sexually exploited.
“Despite the scandal implicating the husband of then Minister Manju Verma, she was fielded again in the 2020 elections, and now her son contests from the same constituency,” he pointed out.
Adding to the outrage, he cited the recent discovery of the semi-naked body of a 13-year-old girl in Cheria Bariarpur, Begusarai, with initial reports suggesting sexual violence followed by murder.
“After enduring such heinous crimes, does the Prime Minister still have the moral authority to ask the women of Bihar for their votes? The people have made up their minds; they are resolved to bring change by uprooting this government,” Ramesh asserted.
