Jodhpur, Oct 29 (UNI): The Rajasthan High Court Wednesday granted a six-month interim bail to rape case convict Asaram Bapu.

The High Court division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sangeeta Sharma granted him interim bail on medical grounds.

Senior Advocate from Delhi Devdutt Kamath appeared for the convict while Additional Advocate General Deepak Chaudhary pleaded for the Rajasthan government.

Asaram is a convict in a 2013 case of rape on a minor girl, a student of his ashram’s school. He is serving life imprisonment in the case and has been in Jodhpur jail for the past 12 years.

After 12 years of imprisonment, in January this year he was granted, for the first time, an interim bail for medical treatment by the Supreme Court and the Rajasthan High Court, until March 31, 2025. This period of bail was extended by the Rajasthan High Court, twice, lastly until August 30, 2025.

On August 27, 2025, the convict pleaded before the High Court division bench of Justices Dinesh Mehta and Vineet Kumar Mathur for another extension in the interim bail beyond August 30. However, his plea was rejected by the bench.
