Rahul Gandhi slams ‘double engine’ govt, cites Bihar’s plunge in development rankings

New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today launched a sharp attack on the BJP-JDU government in Bihar, arguing that its policies have resulted in the state significantly lagging in key areas of human development, health, education, and employment.

During a recent engagement with youth in Bihar, Gandhi detailed what he described as the state’s dire performance, backed by a range of concerning national rankings across various sectors. The Congress leader shared specific data points to illustrate his critique.

Education saw poor standing, with Bihar ranking 27th in class 9-10 dropout rates, 28th in class 11-12 enrollment, and 28th in female literacy. Employment rankings were low, placing the state 21st in service sector jobs and 23rd in the industry/manufacturing sector. Health metrics showed a critical situation, with Bihar ranking 27th in infant mortality rate, 29th in health insurance coverage, and 29th in access to household toilets. In overall Human Development, the state was placed 27th in the Human Development Index (HDI) and 25th in per capita income.

Gandhi argued that these figures expose the government’s failure to create opportunities for the state’s young population. “These are not just numbers; they are a mirror—a rear-view mirror showing how far this ‘double engine’ has dragged Bihar back from progress,” Gandhi stated in a post on X, emphasizing that despite the talent of Bihar’s youth, the current administration has delivered only “unemployment and despair.” He further called for a political shift, affirming the Mahagathbandhan’s pledge for justice. “Now is the time for change—to reawaken Bihar’s pride. It is time to reaffirm the Mahagathbandhan’s resolve for justice,” he added, aiming to ignite a wider debate on the incumbent government’s track record.
