New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav today launched a sharp attack on the BJP government, accusing it of squeezing Uttar Pradesh’s sugar mills “like sugarcane” through corruption and complicity.
Speaking on his WhatsApp channel, Yadav demanded the immediate release of outstanding dues owed to sugarcane farmers, along with interest, and lambasted the ruling party for its alleged anti-farmer policies.
“The BJP’s complicity in corruption has squeezed the sugar mills of Uttar Pradesh like sugarcane. Will the bankruptcy of UP’s mills and the continuous closure of factories and shops lead to a trillion-dollar economy?” Yadav questioned, highlighting the crisis engulfing the sugar industry.
His demands come amid growing reports of severe financial distress in Uttar Pradesh’s sugar sector, where millers owe over Rs 2,700 crore in arrears to sugarcane farmers.
The delayed payments threaten the livelihoods of thousands of farmers and raise broader concerns about the health of the state’s agricultural economy.
Yadav’s criticism forms part of a larger narrative accusing the BJP of neglecting farmers’ interests. “The BJP has been, is, and will always be anti-farmer,” he asserted, pointing to the party’s failure to address the pressing concerns of sugarcane cultivators in India’s largest sugar-producing state.
With Uttar Pradesh gearing up for elections, the SP chief’s demand for swift payment to farmers is poised to intensify political pressure on the BJP, highlighting the critical role agricultural issues will play in the electoral battle ahead.
