IMD issues heavy rain alert for Karnataka

Bengaluru, Oct 27 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued a weather warning for Karnataka, forecasting widespread rainfall activity accompanied by thunderstorms over the next few days across several regions of the state.

According to the IMD, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms are likely at many places in Coastal, North Interior and South Interior Karnataka till tomorrow.

Coastal districts are expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall during this period. The department has also indicated the possibility of isolated very heavy rainfall over Coastal Karnataka today, with rainfall intensity likely to be more pronounced in certain pockets along the shoreline and adjoining hilly areas.

Interior Karnataka, including Bengaluru and surrounding districts, may experience intermittent showers along with thunder and lightning.

The IMD has also cautioned that gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour may accompany thunderstorms in some interior regions on October 27 and 28.

Authorities have advised residents, especially those in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall spells, and follow local advisories. The rain activity is expected to gradually decrease after October 29, according to IMD forecasts.
