Revolutionary treatment for enlarged prostate available at AIIMS Bhopal

  • Surgery-free treatment offers faster recovery and improved quality of life

Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal has introduced Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE), a cutting-edge, minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of enlarged prostate. Approved by the American Urological Association (AUA) and NICE UK Guidelines, this innovative technique represents a significant advancement in urological care in Central India.

PAE works by selectively blocking blood flow to the enlarged prostate through a small pinhole puncture in the wrist or groin artery, leading to gland shrinkage and alleviating urinary symptoms—without the need for surgery or general anesthesia. The procedure offers rapid recovery, no incisions, and preservation of sexual function, making it particularly advantageous for high-risk or elderly patients.

Highlighting its success, a 65-year-old man suffering from severe urinary problems recently underwent PAE at AIIMS Bhopal’s Interventional Radiology Centre under the care of Dr. Aman Kumar. The patient experienced a swift recovery and is now symptom-free.

According to Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Malik, Head of Radiodiagnosis, the introduction of PAE underscores AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to adopting world-class medical technologies and providing safer, patient-centric care. This advanced treatment offers new hope for men seeking effective, minimally invasive relief from prostate enlargement.
